India Post Parcel Problems & Solutions

Stuck on a status that won't change? Here's what each common problem means and exactly what to do about it.

Tracking not updating for a few days?

Statuses refresh only when your parcel is physically scanned at a hub, not in real time. A gap of 24–72 hours between scans is normal, especially over long distances. If there's no new scan for more than 7 days, raise a complaint at indiapost.gov.in or call your post office.

Parcel delayed beyond the expected date?

Delays are common around festivals, in remote PIN codes, and during strikes or weather disruptions. First check the latest scan location if it's near your city, delivery is usually a day or two away. If it has been stuck at one hub for over 5 days, file a complaint with your consignment number.

Status shows "Delivery Attempted" but you got nothing?

This means the postman tried but couldn't hand it over usually no one was home or the address was unclear. India Post attempts delivery 2–3 times. Contact your local delivery post office the same day to arrange re-delivery or pick it up with ID proof.

Status says "Delivered" but you didn't receive it?

Check with family, neighbours, or your building security first parcels are sometimes handed to whoever is available. If it's genuinely missing, contact the delivery post office immediately and request the delivery proof, which records the date, time, and receiver's name. Escalate at indiapost.gov.in if unresolved.

Parcel "Returned to Sender"?

A parcel is returned after repeated failed delivery attempts, a wrong or incomplete address, or if it stays unclaimed past the 15-day holding period. The sender can re-book it once it comes back. If you're the receiver, ask the sender to confirm your full address and PIN code before re-dispatch.
